Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect from our first session?
Your first 30 minute consultation session with me is free. We will get to know each other and see if we are a good fit. Sometimes it can take a few therapists to find one that is right for you. We will talk about what you want to get out of therapy and your personal goals.
What is therapy?
Therapy is a space & service to use for yourself. You can use the session to vent, seek guidance or process difficult things in your life. A therapist does not tell a client what to do with their life decisions. Therapists work to help clients make decisions for themselves. We may help you process decisions and the possible outcomes.
Do you accept insurance?
I do no accept insurance. I am a licensed clinician and can provide you with a superbill to submit to your health insurance if you have out-of-network mental health benefits.
If you are unsure if you have out-of-network mental health benefits, you can call your insurance and ask:
- Do you cover mental health services from out of network providers?
- If so, what is my deductible (the total amount I must pay first before services are reimbursed)?
- How much have I already paid towards this deductible this year?
- What is the process for submitting a superbill from my out of network provider?
- What is the rate that you cover for therapy sessions?
How do I pay for a therapy session?
Sessions must be paid before the start of the session. I accept payment through Zelle, Venmo and PayPal.
What do I do if I want to cancel a session?
Please contact me directly via email to cancel a scheduled session. Cancellations must be made 24 hours before the scheduled session. Cancellations after 24 hours will result in a half charge of the scheduled session.
Is therapy right for me?
Based on what you are looking for, we can discuss if therapy is right for you . Other referral services that I may suggest include a life coach, medication or doctor check ups.
What’s the difference between talking to family and friends vs. talking to a therapist?
Talking to a therapist can offer an outside and unbiased perspective. As a professional, I may take notice to important things that other people in your life may not notice, like maladaptive patterns that show up in multiple areas of your life. As a therapist, I have an understanding of clinical symptoms, the effects of trauma and relationship patterns.
How long does therapy take?
Everyone’s journey is different. Therapy can be short term or long term, depending on your goals. Meeting weekly at the beginning of treatment is best to determine how long treatment can last.
